A Catalytic Movement

Dec 4, 2017 | Written by mc_admin |

The 4th Wave of Megacities saw 35 teams come to Metro Manila Plus, covering the whole city with teams ministering in all kinds of ways. Over 10,000 people gave their lives to the Lord! We give praise to God for all the amazing things that He has done throughout 2017. There are already so many testimonies of how God has brought a catalytic movement to Metro Manila Plus, leading to His Kingdom manifesting itself in every area of society. Pastors and other leaders in Manila have shared of the incredible growth of the Body of Christ brought about by teams throughout the year. Wave 4 was a miraculous time of teams finishing well, while the Holy Spirit continued to set the church of Manila on fire for God in a greater way.

Teams carried out a variety of mercy ministries. Health Care teams used their skills to reach out to people and communities, which in turn created many opportunities for sharing the gospel. Simple Health Care Seminars were hosted in various parts of Metro Manila Plus, training people to teach on basic areas of health care, while Birth Attendant teams ministered to women, meeting practical, emotional and spiritual needs. In addition, An Appropriate Technologies team worked in a community, training local workers how to build affordable biogas tanks, a simple piece of apparatus used to create fuel from organic waste, to provide families with a sustainable source of energy for cooking.

Training and discipleship has been a key part of ministry, with teams training youth in evangelism and running Discipleship Seminars. Teams visited drug rehab centres, juvenile detention centres and prisons to bring teaching and discipleship, and have seen a genuine eagerness in prisoners to receive teaching. Prisoners have responded with a real softness, sharing testimonies such as “I have learnt how to forgive.”

Evangelism has continued to take place throughout Metro Manila Plus, with Bible distribution being an effective tool for sharing about Jesus in communities. Many Filipino youth have been going out with teams to do open airs and one-on-one evangelism, mobilising the local church. Ministering in the area of education has also played a major role in reaching out to the young people of Manila, as doors were opened for teams to preach the gospel in schools, leading to hundreds of salvations. One team saw 3000 students accept Jesus into their life after teaching in one school!

A highlight during Wave 4 was the Global Youth Outreach (GYO) at Cuneta Astrodome on October 30th, 31st, and November 1st, followed by the Day of Compassion on November 4th. The GYO was centred on the presence and person of Jesus. Hunger for God was evident in those who came, and many were met by the Holy Spirit. Through worship times, testimonies, anointed speakers and more, God did a deep, transforming work in many lives. Through times of ministry, people received healing, and others received the call to missions, locally and in the nations! Deep consecration to the Lord took place, with hundreds committing their lives to serve Jesus’s call to “Go.”

The following Saturday, those who attended the conference were invited to meet in their home cities in Metro Manila Plus for the ‘Day of Compassion’, a day devoted to evangelism taking place simultaneously all over the city. All throughout, teams sought to mobilise the Body of Christ by inviting them to do ministry on the streets together. Almost 300 local Christians came out to join teams in taking the gospel to the streets, help the poor and pray for the sick. Hundreds of healings inspired many, while others were deeply challenged to continue to minister to the lost in their own city, even after Megacities finishes. More than 700 people gave their lives to Jesus during this remarkable day.

Throughout Megacities Manila 2017, we have heard extraordinary stories of lives being changed and transformed, as teams have continued to hear God’s voice, walk in obedience, and answer the call to Know God and Make Him Known.
